FAQ

\\IS THERE AN AUDITION?

No. Inclusion in the honor choir is based upon director nomination. Singers must possess tuneful and accurate singing voices, appropriate rhythmic and music literacy skills, and be musically and emotionally prepared to make music in a large-group setting during the honor choir event.

\\WHAT'S THE REPERTOIRE?

Just two weeks before All-State auditions, the Simpson College Honor Choir serves many fantastic purposes including a chance to rehearse and perform at least two (and sometimes three) of the year’s All-State pieces in a performance setting prior to the auditions. 2023 repertoire: TBD. (2022's repertoire is found HERE. To see a historical listing of the previous honor choirs, click HERE.)

\\WHAT IS THE COST, AND HOW DO WE HANDLE PAYMENT?

The cost is just $15 per participant, which includes lunch.  The Honor Choir does not provide transportation to campus. Payment is typically made on the day of the Honor Choir at registration. A school district or music booster check is preferred.

\\WHEN SHOULD WE ARRIVE?

Please be sure to arrive closer to 8:30 than 9:00 to facilitate a timely registration and our ability to start right on time at 9:00. There are typically around 150 singers participating in this honor choir. There will be doughnuts, juice, and coffee in the lobby of the music building for participants when they arrive.

\\WHAT SHOULD STUDENTS BRING?

All choral scholars will, of course, have their music in a black folder, a pencil, and probably a water bottle for comfort. Additionally, be sure that all honor choir participants have performance attire for the evening concert.  Attire for the evening concert is the student’s regular high school performance attire – robes are preferred if this is an option.

\\WHAT SHOULD SINGERS WEAR DURING THE DAY?

Please dress comfortably for rehearsals during the day. There is no need to be formal during the day.

\\DO WE NEED TICKETS FOR THE CONCERT?

No, the evening concert is free and open to the public. There is no need for a ticket or reservation.
